Welcome to the new Atglen Borough website!
Trash & Recycling
Trash Collection

The Borough contracts with AJ Blosenski to collect trash, recycling and certain bulk items. Each household is provided with 2 toters. The larger toter is for household trash. If you are missing a toter, or if your toter is broken please notify the Borough. The cost of repairing or replacing your toter is included in your trash fee.

Trash and recycling are collected once a week on Wednesdays. It is advisable to put out your trash and recycling toters on Tuesday evenings. One bulk item per week can be placed for pick-up if you do not set out additional trash bags. The bulk item has a weight limit of 60 pounds and 4 feet in length. Wood or twigs must be bundled or placed in trash bags, 4 bags per week or 1 bundle per week.

These items cannot be put out for collection: construction materials, cement, tires, oil based paint, batteries, appliances with freon, electronics (E-waste) including TV's, computers, printers, etc. Latex paint can be placed for pick-up if the contents are emptied or dried out.

For disposal information regarding items not able to be put out as part of the Atglen trash program visit the Chester County Solid Waste Authority.

Recycling

There is no quantity limits to weekly recycling. If you fill up the recycling toter additional items can be placed out for collection in another container clearly labeled recycling. Breaking down all cardboard boxes will create more room in the toter. All recycled material can be mixed together in the recycling container provided by the hauler.

The biggest recycling issue we experience is household trash being mixed in with recycling. If this happens the contents of the toter are considered contaminated and the hauler will not empty your recycling toter. Please do not put a liner in the can or put recyclables in plastic bags. Plastic bags and packing materials (Styrofoam, bubble wrap etc.) are not part of our recycling program. Food containers should be rinsed and free of contents prior to recycling. Containers with food residue, greasy pizza boxes and the like should be put in the trash. If you are unsure whether something is recyclable place it in the trash.
